What is Earthing ?
This term is based on how the energy field in the Earth's crust maintains the electrical stability of our bodies, thus serving as a basis for vitality and health.
In an age of chronic disease on the rise, due to the stresses of modern life, reconnecting with the Earth's energy under our feet by practicing earthing, provides a way back to better health, generating incredible results, both calming and restoring physical, mental and emotional balance in our bodies.
For many people the effect is dramatic, like getting your life back. For others, the effect is gradual and subtle.
Throughout history, human beings have walked barefoot on the ground, releasing electrical tension naturally and preventing its accumulation. When we are in contact with the earth, either because we are walking barefoot on the beach or through any conductive object, this silent energy is transferred naturally to us and becomes "ground" allowing our body to mantain its natural balance
Why is Earthing so important?
Electrons are the "object of affect," so to speak, of positively charged free radicals, the biochemical agents that cause oxidation in the body. Electrons are the source of antioxidant power. This influx of electrons from the soil is believed to potently neutralize or quench free radicals that would otherwise steal electrons from healthy tissue, the activity that results in tissue damage and chronic inflammation, being the basis for many common and serious diseases.
Connecting with the earth, both outside and inside a building, has helped many people tremendously with various illnesses, injuries, and stresses. There has been many studies in the past 10 years leading to the benefits of this practice. This studies had been developed on concrete aspects like inflammatory and sleep disorders and how staying grounded can drastically improve the symptoms of this and other chronic deseases.
Skin Clearness & Blood Flow
Many people had declared experiencing big changes in their skin aspect and elasticity, they showed that connecting to the ground for one hour produced a noticeable improvement in facial irrigation. This fact is associated with tissue repair and the best appearance of the skin improving also brain and cardiovascular activity.
To determine if Earthing for one hour improves facial blood circulation, forty middle-aged volunteers were divided into a grounded group and a sham-grounded group according to a double-blind procedure. They were asked to sit in a comfortable recliner chair equipped with a grounding mat, pillow and patches. The grounding systems were either grounded or sham-grounded via a wire to the ground port of a power outlet. An infrared imaging camera was used to measure changes in blood flow and temperature. Thermal imaging showed clearly improved circulation of fluids (including blood) throughout the torso, which in turn, translates into enhanced delivery of blood to the head and improved blood circulation in the face as well. The results of this innovative study demonstrate that even one-hour contact with the Earth appears to promote significantly autonomic nervous system control of body fluids and peripheral blood flow that may improve blood circulation in the torso and face, facial tissue repair, skin health and vitality and optimize facial appearance (face anterior view p = 0.002; face lateral views p = 0.017; full anterior torso view p = 0.002).

Improve Sleep & Chronic Pain
It has been well documented that many people have eliminated or severely diminished chronic pain through the control of inflammation or free radicals balance.
The first double-blind investigation focused on people with sleep disorders and chronic pain. 100% of the "connected" woke up more rested. 93% reported an improvement in sleep quality. 82% noted improvement in muscle stiffness and pain. 78% say they have had greater general well-being. In the control group the improvements were null or very little. It reduces stress Cortisol is the hormone of stress and insomnia.
Another study investigated cortisol levels in individuals who slept grounded. Cortisol was reduced during night sleep. Profiles within 24 hours were normalized. Patients reported the following subjective improvements: 100% claimed to wake up fewer times at night. 92% assured that they slept before.

Improves muscle recovery
This fact was put into the table when the American cycling team used earthing techniques for their recovery process in the Tour of France obtaining a significant increase in their muscle recovery. This persuaded other scientists to look deep into this idea where they carried out a study to evaluate selected biochemical parameters in subjects who were earthed during cycling. In a double-blind, crossover study, 42 participants were divided into two groups and earthed during exercise and recovery. One group was earthed in the first week during 30 minutes of cycling exercise and during recovery, and a second group was earthed in the second week. A double-blind technique was applied. Blood samples were obtained before each training session, after 15 and 30 minutes of exercise, and after 40 minutes of recovery. Significantly lower blood urea levels were observed in subjects earthed during exercise and relaxation. These significant differences were noted in both groups earthed at the beginning of exercise (), after 15 () and 30 minutes () of exercise, and after 40 minutes of relaxation (). Creatinine concentrations in earthed subjects during exercise were unchanged. Conclusions. Earthing during exercise lowers blood urea concentrations and may inhibit hepatic protein catabolism or increase renal urea excretion. Exertion under earthing may result in a positive protein balance.

A study examined the effects of 2 hours of grounding in 10 adults on the electrical charge (zeta potential) on red blood cells (RBCs) and the effects on the extent of RBC clumping.
Subjects were grounded with conductive patches on the soles of their feet and palms of their hands. Wires connected the patches to a stainless-steel rod inserted in the earth outdoors. Small fingertip pin prick blood samples were placed on microscope slides and an electric field was applied to them. Electrophoretic mobility of the RBCs was determined by measuring terminal velocities of the cells in video recordings taken through a microscope. RBC aggregation was measured by counting the numbers of clustered cells in each sample. Each subject sat in a comfortable reclining chair in a soundproof experiment room with the lights dimmed or off. Earthing or grounding increased zeta potentials in all samples by an average of 2.70 and significantly reduced RBC aggregation getting to the conclusion that grounding increases the surface charge on RBCs and thereby reduces blood viscosity and clumping. This practice appears to be one of the simplest and yet most profound interventions for helping reduce cardiovascular risk and cardiovascular events.

So, how do i get started?
Walking barefoot is the best way to reconnect. Not only will you allow the negative charge of the earth to renew your health, it will also improve the shape and strength of your feet and reduce the impact. Of course, you must walk on the sand, on the beach or in any grounded surface. Either way works.
Studies carried out saw results from connections of only 40 minutes but it is recommended to stay grounded for at least an hour day.
If walking barefoot does not fit your routine because you live in the city or you just don't have time, don't worry, there are many options that will allow you to hack the system and obtain the same benefits
Does taking off my shoes at home work?
No. Being barefoot at home is positive for your feet but does not allow reconnection, the houses are isolated.
Solution to practice Earthing at home
The solution is to get a special sheet or mat. Which connected to the grounding of your house or office allows the body to receive the negative ground charge that you body needs.
With this system the induced voltage of your body will approach zero (0 - 0.2 volts). If you spend a lot of time in the office you can use a mat. In that environment your voltage will be higher, predictably from 3 to 6 volts because of the electrical devices, with the mat grounded it will drop to 0.4 - 0.5 volts.
We were born to be in direct contact with the earth. Moving away from this origin is dysfunctional as dozens of scientific studies confirm. It is not necessary to return to the caverns. Nor do you walk barefoot for 24 hours. With one hour of “connection” daily is enough.
